I didn’t know what a “super-angel” was a week ago but I definitely do after attending the EBAN congress. The team at Comit had the privilege of doing all the PR for HBAN, who hosted this year’s European Business Angel Congress on the 19th and 20th of May, and what an enjoyable two days it turned out to be.

As stated in our last blog post, it has been an incredible year for technology in Ireland and next year is building on this trend. As well as being home to some of the top companies in the world, Ireland is also fast becoming a global hub for technology start-ups. Innovative and exciting technology companies are continually being established, but one problem with this is that the sheer number of new companies in a similar field creates a saturated market in which it is hard to be noticed.

New Google algorithms have been widely predicted to kill PR agencies. We disagree. On the contrary, we believe that this change is a boon for good PR. The new webmaster guidelines issued by Google affects optimised anchor text for link building within online news releases. Google states, “Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site's ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site or outgoing links from your site.”It specifically points to links with optimised anchor text in articles or press releases distributed on other sites which is not good SEO practice.

Social Media – time for B2B businesses to get on board?

One of our clients recently featured in the Guardian talking about the impact of proactive social media campaigns as a B2B business. Chas Moloney, marketing director of Ricoh UK and Ireland, was quoted as saying, "We have a complicated story to tell, working in multiple markets and sectors. Social media has allowed us to tell that story. We have doubled visitors to our blog and corporate website. Social media channels such as LinkedIn have enabled us to engage with existing customers."
